Golf: Koepka and DeChambeau lead after the opening round of the Masters

Gary Player joined Jack Nicklaus in getting the 83rd Masters underway. Player and Nicklaus continued their role as honorary starters by each hitting a tee shot on the opening hole, with 83-year-old Player producing the longer - and more accurate - drive by around 30 yards from 79-year-old Nicklaus. With the formalities out of the way, Tiger Woods finished his opening round at the Masters with a 2-under 70. Koepka made five birdies in six holes from the 10th on his way to a 6-under 66 that was matched by his fellow American Bryson DeChambeau. Phil Mickelson, who would be the oldest major winner in history if he claims a fourth green jacket at the age of 48, also birdied five of the last seven to lie one shot off the lead, with Ian Poulter and Dustin Johnson a shot further back. Rory McIlroy, who needs to win the Masters to complete a career grand slam, was joint 44th after an opening 73.
