New Zealand were featuring in the semi-finals of a FIFA tournament - any FIFA tournament - for the first time in the country's history. The Kiwis had stunned Asian powerhouse Japan in the quarter-finals. But Leon Birnie's side were always second-best to Spain. A poor header by Hannah Mackay-Wright was punished by Claudia Pina in the 39th minute for her fifth goal of the tournament. And a strong contender for the goal of the finals sealed Spain's victory in the 48th minute. Irene Lopez's strike made it 2-0 - enough for the Spanish to book a place against Mexico in the final.
