Football News: Paris Saint-Germain issue contract ultimatum to Kylian Mbappe?

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly handed a contract ultimatum to Kylian Mbappe after he refused to extend his contract until 2025.

Last year, the France international appeared to be on his way to a free move to Real Madrid before abruptly committing his future to PSG for the next two seasons.

Mbappe's contract renewal contained the option of a third year, but the 24-year-old recently confirmed to the PSG administration that he had no plans to exercise the clause.

PSG are reportedly unhappy with Mbappe's refusal to extend his contract, and are aggressively attempting to sell the forward this summer before he leaves on a free transfer in 2024.

Mbappe, on the other hand, has strangely stated that he intends to stay at the Parc des Princes for the upcoming season, and that he will not consider his future until next summer.

Despite Mbappe's statements, The Times (via Marca) reports that PSG has issued an ultimatum to the striker in order to persuade him to extend his contract.

If Mbappe accepts the 12-month option, PSG has allegedly told him that he can join any other club next year as long as the interested party pays at least €100 million (£86 million).

However, if the former Monaco starlet continues to defy the club's efforts to bind him down, PSG will do everything in their power to unload him before the transfer window closes.

Mbappe's contract dilemma has alerted Real Madrid, who failed with a £137 million deal for the attacker in 2021, and Los Blancos will eventually need to recruit a permanent replacement for Karim Benzema following his move to Al-Ittihad.

Joselu has joined the club on a season-long loan from Espanyol, with a permanent contract possible in 2024, although at 33 years old, the Spain international will not be a long-term option.

Despite the departures of Benzema, Mariano Diaz, Eden Hazard, and Marco Asensio, Real president Florentino Perez has stated that the club will not make any further signings following the acquisition of Joselu.

With Real Madrid presumably happy to wait until 2024 to see whether Mbappe is still available, if Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani's takeover proposal is successful, Manchester United may be the Frenchman's only viable choice for a summer move.

Sheikh Jassim is reported to be ahead of Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the race to buy the club from the Glazer family, although the American owners have yet to accept any bids.

Following a season-long loan from Monaco in 2017-18, PSG signed Mbappe on a permanent basis for €180 million (£154.8 million), making him the second most expensive player of all time behind colleague Neymar.

Since then, the World Cup winner has scored 212 goals in 260 matches for the French champions, including 29 goals in the 2022-23 Ligue 1 season for his sixth Golden Boot.
