Football News: Neymar wants to retire at Paris Saint-Germain

Despite speculation about a transfer to the Premier League or a return to Barcelona, Neymar is reportedly going to retire with Paris Saint-Germain.
The 31-year-old transferred from Camp Nou to the Parc des Princes for a world-record cost of £198 million in the summer of 2017 after spending four years with the Catalan powerhouses.

Although he has yet to lead PSG to victory in the Champions League, the Brazilian attacker has already played a significant role in helping PSG win 12 trophies over the last five seasons, including four Ligue 1 titles.

In 173 appearances for PSG in all competitions, Neymar has tallied a total of 118 goals and 77 assists, including 18 goals and 17 assists in 29 games this season.

The forward will not be able to add to his remarkable total this season, though, as he will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season after having ankle surgery last week.

Neymar has consistently been mentioned as a potential exit from the Parc des Princes due to his injury worries and his off-field difficulties.

The attacker, who PSG reportedly values between £85 million and £95 million, has been linked with a return to Barcelona as well as high-profile clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City.

According to a recent rumour, Neymar has no intention of leaving PSG until the summer of 2027, when his contract expires.

The Brazilian has now indicated that he does intend to complete his career with the French powerhouse and has committed his future to the team as they strive to win more trophies and end their Champions League drought.

According to the article, it is unclear whether Neymar plans to stop playing football when his contract expires in 2027 at the age of 35, one year after the 2026 World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Neymar's decision to stay at PSG comes at a time when fellow forwards Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe's futures are thought to be uncertain because the former's contract expires in the summer.

Messi, 35, has expressed an interest in extending his contract at Parc de Princes, but according to a recent report, PSG has decided to halt contract negotiations with both the Argentine and teammate Sergio Ramos, who is also up for renewal this summer, due to worries about breaking Financial Fair Play regulations.

However, Mbappe apparently has less than four months remaining to trigger a one-year extension clause in his PSG contract to keep him at the club until June 2025.

The 24-year-old recently reaffirmed that he is "quite content" where he is in Paris, but should he decide not to activate the extension, Real Madrid is apparently set to rekindle their interest in the attacker with the goal of luring him to the Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer in 2024.
