Football News: Liverpool’s new signing undergoes surgery on long-term injury

Calvin Ramsay, a fullback for Liverpool, underwent surgery to repair a problematic knee issue, and is now out for the foreseeable future. The 19-year-old signed a deal with Liverpool runs until June 2027.

He was transferred from Scottish Premiership team Aberdeen last summer for £4 million. Ramsay, on the other hand, has only made seven appearances overall this season due to a persistent knee ailment.

Five of appearances of which Calvin Ramsay have been part of are for club's Under-21 team. The Scotsman made his senior debut as a late substitute in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Napoli at home in the Champions League group stage.

Eight days later, Ramsay began his debut game for the Reds against Derby County in the third round of the EFL Cup. He played the entire 90 minutes at right-back before watching Jurgen Klopp's team advance 3-2 on penalties from the halfway line.

Since then, Ramsay hasn't appeared for the seniors, and on Thursday, he posted an injury update indicating that he had surgery. Following his procedure, the adolescent uploaded a photo of himself resting on a hospital bed, along with a caption that read:

"Surgery went well time to rest, recover and come back stronger!"

Ramsay's post has received supportive replies from a number of his Liverpool colleagues, including fellow Scot Andrew Robertson and captain Jordan Henderson.

Ramsay won't likely participate in Liverpool's 2022-23 season any longer, and he won't be able to play for Scotland in the Euro 2024 qualifications at the end of the month.

In other Anfield injury news, winger Luis Diaz has been spotted working out apart from the first team as he recovers from a knee injury. The winger is still at least a few weeks away from playing again.

Ibrahima Konate, a centre back, and Thiago Alcantara, a midfielder, who were not seen at the AXA Training Centre on Thursday, are anticipated to be out for the foreseeable future with hamstring and hip ailments, respectively.

The fitness of Juventus loanee Arthur, who participated in team training on Thursday and may be included for the matchday squad on Saturday, has given the Reds some hope.

After defeating Everton 2-0 in the Merseyside derby on Monday, Liverpool will be looking to build on that success when they face Newcastle United in a tough Premier League matchup at St. James' Park.

The gap to the Champions League spots would be reduced to six points with a victory on Saturday for Klopp's team, who are presently ninth in the table and nine points behind the Magpies in fourth despite having played one more game.
