Mason Mount, the Chelsea midfielder has now reportedly become Liverpool's top summer target.
The Reds are expected to bolster their midfield options as Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all set to run out of contract this summer.
The Reds have previously listed Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham as their key summer transfer target. However, now they have decided to halt their chase because they do not want to get embroiled in a bidding war.
And also dedicate a major chunk of their budget only on one player which is completely opposite of Klopp's style. Meanwhile, Liverpool are expected to miss out on Champions League qualification, which could limit Klopp's options in the summer.
The Reds have decided to spread their funds across numerous transactions in order to sign at least two new midfielders. According to the Liverpool Echo, Mount is suddenly emerging as Liverpool's new priority target for the summer transfer season.
The England international has entered the final 18 months of his contract, and negotiations for a new agreement have stalled. Chelsea wants to sign Mount to a seven-year contract, but the player is hesitant to sign such a long contract.
The 24-year-old is also hoping for a wage raise that would put him on par with the club's greatest earners.
If the two parties cannot reach an agreement in the summer, Chelsea may consider selling Mount rather than risking him going on a free transfer in 2024.
If the Blues decide to sell, they are reportedly looking for offers in the area of £50 million.
The Chelsea academy product has appeared in 192 competitive appearances for the senior team, scoring 33 goals and assisting on 37 others.
Conor Gallagher, Mount's Chelsea colleague, is also thought to be on Liverpool's radar, as are Wolverhampton Wanderers' Matheus Nunes and Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch.
