Football News : Juventus and Barcelona to battle it out for Man United’s Diogo Dalot

In light of the uncertainties surrounding the future of the Portugal international, Juventus is allegedly in the running to sign Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot.

The 23-year-old has made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils this season, contributing two assists in the process. Dalot had previously struggled to earn regular appearances for Man United, but ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired as manager in November 2021, he has become the team's first-choice right-back.

The Portuguese's contract is set to end in June of next year, which has generated a lot of rumours about what will happen to him. Man United can choose to exercise a one-year extension, but sources suggest that the club is eager to reach a new, long-term agreement with the former Porto prodigy.

Dalot's future is still up in the air, though, and Barcelona has been widely linked to the right-back recently. It is thought that the Catalan club has already spoken to the defender's agents to express interest in bringing him to Camp Nou for the 2023-24 season.

Calciomercato claims that Juventus, who are seeking to replace Juan Cuadrado, are receiving significant interest from Italy as well. According to the sources, the Old Lady believe Dalot would be the ideal addition because he can play at wingback as well and has Serie A experience from his time at AC Milan.

During the 2020-21 season, the Portuguese played on loan with the Red and Blacks, making 33 appearances, including 21 in Serie A, during a productive stint at San Siro.

Dalot recently disclosed that he had the opportunity to sign with Milan permanently but chose to stay and contend for a spot at Man United.

"Milan are a great club and I loved the season with the Rossoneri. But it (transfer) wasn't just up to me. In the end I decided to stay at United and it was the right decision,"

Dalot told reporters.

"If I'm a better defender I owe it to Milan. Italian football is different from the Premier League and I had to adapt in just one year and playing in Serie A has helped me a lot."

"Over the past two years here in Manchester, the minutes have increased and, consequently, so has self-esteem."

Before joining Man United, Dalot made eight appearances for Porto during the 2017-18 season. Since then, he has made 76 appearances for the 20-time English champions, scoring one goal and dishing out five assists.
