Football News: Chelsea 'in talks over re-signing Tino Livramento'

Chelsea are allegedly in negotiations with Southampton to re-sign academy graduate Tino Livramento.

After Southampton's 11-year run in the Premier League ended last season, Livramento has been linked with a move away from St Mary's.

Newcastle United have been dominating the race for the right-back, but talks with Southampton have broken down.

After failing with an initial £12 million deal, Eddie Howe's side returned with an upgraded offering thought to be worth £21 million, which was also rejected by the Saints.

With Newcastle unable to reach an agreement, Chelsea appear to have identified an opportunity to pursue a deal for their former player.

The Blues are now in talks with the South Coast club over a possible deal, according to the Daily Mail.

Southampton are in a strong position to negotiate a transfer fee because Livramento is under contract until the summer of 2026.

According to the sources, the Saints value him at £38 million, which is much more than the £8 million Chelsea paid for him in 2021.

Chelsea are eager to reach an agreement in which Livramento would return to Southampton on loan to acquire vital playing time.

After suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in April 2022, the England Under-21 international missed the majority of previous season.

Livramento returned after a 13-month layoff in time to make substitute appearances in Southampton's final two games of the season.

Livramento came through the Chelsea youth systems, and his abilities were highlighted in the 2020-21 season when he was voted Academy Player of the Year.

Despite being highly regarded in the academy, the 20-year-old left the club without making a single professional appearance.
While the Blues are in the market for more departures than recruitment this time, thus, even if they re-sign Livramento the London club will eventually loan him out because of fully-loaded squad.
