Football News : Bayern Munich makes Champions League history after thumping Inter Milan

Bayern Munich defeated Inter Milan 2-0 at the Allianz Arena to create a new Champions League record and improve to six wins from six in Group C.

Before Tuesday night, the Bavarian powerhouses had already guaranteed their spot in the round of 16, thanks to goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Benjamin Pavard either side of the half.

Bayern therefore became the first team to ever win all six of their Champions League group-stage contests in back-to-back campaigns, although Inter's second-place finish was unaffected by the outcome.

Early on, hearts were in mouths as Sadio Mane used his hand to deflect Nicolo Barella's shot in the seventh minute. However, the Senegal attacker was merely defending his face, and VAR decided against awarding a penalty.

After that reprieve, Julian Nagelsmann's team began to push for the opening goal, although Lautaro Martinez had the finest opportunity to do so in the 25th minute when he was found by Robin Gosens but was only able to send the ball over the bar with the goal at his mercy.

The Argentine would live to regret that lost opportunity, as on the 35th minute mark, Pavard met a corner from Joshua Kimmich with a downward header that found the back of the net amid considerable conjecture regarding his apparent discontent at Bayern.

The hosts were almost completely stunned when Inter Milan equalised so early in the second half when Kristjan Asllani headed home from a free kick, but the offside flag saved the Bavarians' face. Bayern was fully deserving of their advantage at the break.

As the game approached the hour mark, Inter attempted to take control, but Nagelsmann's team continued to pose a serious danger moving forward. Choupo-spectacular Moting's effort put the ball in the back of the net, but it was disallowed for offside.

However, the in-form Choupo-Moting persisted in pursuing his usual goal, and in the 72nd minute, Nagelsmann's team calmly handled the closing exchanges to record a spotless group-stage campaign for the third time. Choupo-powerful Moting's shot into the top corner came from a good 20 yards out.
