Football News: Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix flies to London for Chelsea medical

Joao Felix, a forward for Atletico Madrid, is allegedly in London for a Chelsea medical. Thus, the striker will be signing a loan deal that will last through the end of the season. According to reports, the Blues and Atletico have verbally agreed that the 23-year-old would be signed on a temporary basis.

The loan cost for his services is expected to be approximately €11M (£9.7M), and his weekly salary of £250,000 will also be paid by the Blues. There is no option to purchase under the agreement; rather, Felix will extend his contract with Atletico until 2027 before going to Stamford Bridge.

Felix has travelled to London, according to Sky Sports News, to get his medical before completing his loan agreement with Chelsea. The West Londoners look to have beaten out competition from Arsenal and Manchester United, two other Premier League teams that were heavily rumoured to be interested in signing the Portugal international.

Felix's transfer to Stamford Bridge is expected to be official soon, and according to Sky Sports News head correspondent Kaveh Solhekol, if he registers in time, the attacker might be able to make his debut against Fulham on Thursday.

"There's a possibility he could be involved if everything goes well and the paperwork is lodged with the Premier League by midday tomorrow (Wednesday) which is the deadline for him to play on Thursday night against Fulham,"

said Solhekol.

"It's a big game for Chelsea and Graham Potter. There cannot be a repeat of the kind of performance we saw against Manchester City at the weekend."

Felix joined Atletico three and a half years ago for a club record £114 million from Benfica, and at the time, he was seen to be one of the best prospects in all of football.

The attacker, who has started just seven La Liga games this season, has slid down the pecking order at the Wanda Metropolitano and been unable to live up to expectations under head coach Diego Simeone.

Most recently, Felix started for Atletico Madrid in their 1-0 La Liga loss to Barcelona on Sunday. He was afterwards replaced.

The Viseu-born attacker, who has contributed three assists and five goals to all competitions this season, is looking for a new challenge and is aiming to regain his form at Chelsea under Potter.

Potter has already been active in the January market, signing Andrey Santos, David Datro Fofana, and Benoit Badiashile to long-term contracts.

Felix is about to join a Chelsea team that is now ten points behind the top four in the Premier League and has already been eliminated from both domestic cup tournaments. Chelsea is currently 10th in the league standings.

The only chance Chelsea has of winning a trophy this year is in the Champions League, where Potter's team will play Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16.
