Jordan upset defending champions Australia 1-0 in their opening AFC Asian Cup Group B match. Jordan took the lead thanks to Anas Bani Yassen's header in the 26th minute. Baha'a Abdulrahman might have doubled the advantage, but his 30th-minute effort came back off the crossbar. Australia went close to grabbing an equaliser with 12 minutes to go, but Awer Mabil's was denied by an upright. Australia went even closer in added time but goalkeeper Amer Shafi made a double save to deny both Christopher Ikonomidis and Jackson Irvine as Jordan held on to take a narrow victory.
