Defending Malaysian Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim defeated Perak 1-0 to win the Charity Shield. With Real Madrid and Barcelona legend Luis Figo watching from the stands, the Southern Tigers dominated from the start and only some early heroics from Perak goalkeeper Hafizul Hakim on dangerman Safawi Rasid kept the hosts from scoring in the opening ten minutes. But just before halftime, Argentine striker Gonzalo Cabrera curled a shot over the entire Perak defence and past Hakim to give Johor a 1-0 lead. That lone goal would be all Johor needed as they hold on to defeat the 2018 Charity Shield winners Perak 1-0 and claim the season opening silverware.
