Iran advanced to the 2019 AFC Asian Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 victory over Oman at the Mohammed bin Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Oman had the chance to open the scoring inside the first minute when Iran's Seyed Majid Hosseini brought down Muhsen Al Ghassani in the penalty area. However, goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand turned Ahmed Al Mahaijri's spot-kick around the post. Iran regrouped and took the lead past the half-hour mark when Alireza Jahanbakhsh slotted home after Oman's Mohammed Al Musallami had failed to cut out Milad Mohammadi's speculative long ball. Ashkan Dejagah doubled the lead for Carlos Queiroz's side from the spot, after Mehdi Taremi earned his side a penalty shortly before half-time. Iran face Marcello Lippi's China in the AFC Asian Cup quarter-finals in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
