Football: Gabriel own goal puts holders Arsenal out of FA Cup at Southampton

Southampton moved into the 5th round of the FA Cup on Saturday after putting out holders Arsenal at St. Mary's Stadium. A 24th-minute own goal by Arsenal defender Gabriel proved enough to give Ralph Hasenhuttl's men a 1-0 victory and it sets up a last 16 tie at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Southampton were rewarded for their greater energy throughout the game and the pressure they put on the Arsenal midfield and defence starved the visitors' front line of quality service. It was only after Mikel Arteta made changes in the second half that Arsenal began to assert any influence, but they couldn't find an equaliser and rather meekly bowed out of a competition they have won four times since 2014. Southampton's only success in the FA Cup came back in 1976 when they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the final at Wembley.
