Cycling: Stage 3 wins for Schurter/Forster and Batten/Langvad at Swiss Epic

Thursday's Stage 3 of the 2020 Swiss Epic might have been the shortest of the event at 50 kilometres, but it packed in 1900 metres of climbing in a wide loop around Arosa, providing a stern test for the field. In the men's race, Swiss pair Nino Schurter and Lars Forster raced to their second stage victory and extended their overall lead to nearly six minutes. They also benefitted from the retirement of closest rivals Austrian/German duo Daniel Geismayr and Ben Zweihoff after Zweihoff injured his knee in a fall on a downhill section. Trek-Pirelli 1's Fabian Rabensteiner and Samuele Porro of Italy took second place on the day but they are now 5 minutes and 55 seconds behind the leaders. Future Cycling Northwave's Czech pair Kristian Hynek and Martin Stosek finished are third overall, 10:52 off the pace. In the women's race, Denmark's Annika Langvad and Haley Batten of the United States extended their overall lead with a third straight stage victory. On an individual level, Lagvad recorded her 39th stage win in 48 starts in this event and the Specialized - Racing pair lead the Centurion Vaude Radon pair of Stefanie Dohrn and Elisabeth Brandau by 25 minutes and 44 seconds. Dohrn and Brandau were third on the day behind Sophie von Berswordt-Wallrabe and Jacqueline Schneebelijb of the BRUNEX Felt Factory Team.
