Cycling: Gaviria wins first stage of Tour de France with commanding sprint

Colombian rider Fernando Gaviria sprinted to victory and the yellow jersey in opening stage of the Tour de France, while overall favourites Chris Froome and Nairo Quintana both encountered problems. Chris Froome's pursuit of a record-tying fifth Tour de France has not begun as hoped, with the Brit crashing about five kilometres remaining of Saturday's mostly flat 201-kilometre (125-mile) opening stage of the Tour de France, from the island of Noirmoutier-en-l'Ile on the Atlantic coast to Fontenay-le-Comte.
