Lucinda Brand proved too strong for Katherine Compton of the United States and fellow countrywoman Marianne Vos in the ninth and final round of the cyclo-cross World Cup. Brand, who wrapped up the overall women's World Cup title with victory in Pont-Chateau, France, a week ago, finished number one among the elite women. For the men, it went down to the wire. Belgium's Wout Van Aert out-sprinted compatriot Toon Aerts in Pont-Chateau to replace him as the overall World Cup leader going into the final race. On a gruelling, sticky surface Aerts managed to secure second place behind Van Der Poel and ultimately he grabbed the overall title by just two points over Van Aert, despite his third place finish.
