Cricket News: Why Dhoni-less-Virat struggling in IPL?

National selectors led by M.S.K. Prasad will meet on April 15 in Mumbai to pick the squad for the 2019 World Cup in England, starting May 30. It was also speculated that since the selectors had time till April 23 to send in the squad for the World Cup they wanted to watch the performance of some of the players in the ongoing Indian Premier League. However, chief selector MSK Prasad in an interview has said that the performances in the ongoing IPL will not have too much of a bearing on the players picked for the marquee event. The IPL has been pretty successful for some of the probables of the World Cup squad like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. However, Indian skipper Virat Kohli is having a forgettable IPL season. Royal Challenger Bangalore led by Kohli is currently placed at the bottom of the points table after losing their all six matches in a row. They have struggled in this format despite some big guns in the side. They now will have to win all their remaining matches to fancy any hope to qualify for the next round. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has also suggested India should look at resting Virat Kohli from the remainder of the IPL 2019 season, keeping in mind the 2019 ICC World Cup.
