Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh shared his opinions on the KL Rahul after back-to-back disappointing performances. KL Rahul's troubles with the bat persisted in the second Test as he scored a total of 18 runs in both the innings.
KL Rahul has been in discussions, mostly due to his poor batsmanship. But what is more notable is that Rahul has been removed from the vice-captain's position.
Thus, this is providing strong hints that selectors may be looking beyond him. According to Harbhajan, Shubman Gill is in good form to get those critical runs in the opener's slot.
He also claimed that it was about time the young player received the opportunity he so richly deserved inside the team.
"Yes because he is no longer the vice-captain now. The team was announced and I feel the reason why he hasn't been named the vice-captain is because Shubman Gill will be picked for the next match over KL Rahul. Gill has been in terrific form of late, in ODIs and T20Is. He became the super hero and I feel he will definitely get the chance."
The former Indian spinner further added saying
"Also for Rahul, his dismissal today clearly shows that he is going through a rough time. He has a lot of quality and his a big player but his numbers could have been a lot better,"
The 42-year-old said while speaking to India Today after India's 2nd Test victory.
Thus the 42-year-old former Indian spinner suggested Shubman Gill to replace the out of form KL Rahul.
With regard to KL Rahul, Harbhajan advised the 30-year-old to take a break from international cricket and return to playing domestic cricket in order to sharpen his batting techniques. He also supported KL, saying that he should give himself some time because he is one of the best batters in the world.
"I consider him as one of the top batters in world cricket, let alone the Indian team. I think it will be good for KL Rahul to take some time off and play some domestic cricket, try and score runs and get his confidence back up. Then bring him back, he is a quality player, there's no doubt about it."
Said Harbhajan Singh.
