Cricket News: Rohit Sharma makes an unwanted record in India vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI

It's been a while now since we see Rohit Sharma registering a century for India. Thus, the Indian captain has just set a regrettable record in the third One-Day International against Sri Lanka.

Gautam Gambhir, a former cricketer for India, has stated that critics of the sport should attack Rohit Sharma. Gambhir further added that Rohit should be criticized with the same ferocity as they did Virat Kohli when the latter wasn't playing at his best.

Rohit's recent performances have not left Gambhir impressed, he said bluntly. When informed that Rohit had gone 50 innings without a century, the longest streak in his career, the veteran cricketer voiced his shock.

"We should talk in the same phase. Virat Kohli didn't get a hundred for three and a half years. I think Rohit should be kicking himself. It will be equally hard on Rohit Sharma as well. 50 innings are a lot, it's not like he didn't get a hundred in one or two games. If you look at the last (ODI) World Cup, one thing is missing from his game and it's the ability to get those hundreds,"

Said Gambhir while speaking with Star Sports.

For the record, Rohit's most recent century came against England in September 2021 at the Oval. Meanwhile, comparatively, Kohli has three centuries in his last four ODI innings.

After scoring his first T20I tonne against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup, he broke his century drought and hasn't looked back since. Thus, it's now time for Rohit Sharma to shut his critics before India approaches the World Cup this year.

"It's not you didn't get a 100 in one or two series, and that is one thing that is missing in Rohit's game from the last World Cup. He used to get those big 100s, this time he's looking in good form, he's hitting the ball well but he has to convert."

"One thing that has stood out for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is getting hundreds, and Virat has got it back, Rohit Sharma needs to get it back at least before the World Cup, because these two guys will be extremely important if India has to go all the way and win the World Cup"

Said the for Indian opener.

The current Indian opener and skipper must find his form soon as the Men in Blues prepare to end their ICC trophy drought this year.
