The much-anticipated mega-match between India and Pakistan is likely to be rescheduled for the 2023 World Cup, which begins on October 5.
Notably, the arch-rivals are slated to meet on October 15, which is also the start of Navratri, a festival celebrated with widespread participation throughout Gujarat. As a result, the security forces have already informed the BCCI and ICC of a probable date change.
Meanwhile, a date change will be a nightmare for thousands of fans who have already booked travel and lodging for that time period. As a result, the authorities will have to tread carefully in order to avoid a significant backlash.
Notably, tickets are not yet on the market, so the board has the authority to change the venue, particularly if the security agency requests a modification in the timetable.
Meanwhile, speaking to The Indian Express, a top BCCI official confirmed the latest development and added that a decision will be made shortly.
"We are mulling the options that we have and a decision will be taken soon. We have been told by the security agencies that a high-profile game like India vs Pakistan, for which thousands of travelling fans are expected to reach Ahmedabad, should be avoided since they will be stretched because of Navratri,"
The BCCI official, who did not wish to be identified, told.
However, the board is unlikely to modify the venue of the match. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had already expressed worries about facing India in Ahmedabad and would send a team to evaluate the venue in August or early September.
Following that, they will most likely decide whether or not to participate. However, it is commonly assumed that they will not raise any complaints after the Asia Cup situation has been resolved.
BCCI president Roger Binny, on the other hand, will shortly visit Narendra Modi Stadium to evaluate the facility. Aside from that, the former cricketer will be in charge of the development of Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium.
