On Wednesday, June 14, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) requested bids from reputable businesses to acquire the national team's major sponsor rights.
However, it is understood that the BCCI has barred certain brand categories from bidding.
It is worth noting that, following the exit of BYJUs in the previous fiscal year, the apex cricket authority issued a tender for the national team's primary sponsor rights.
Despite the Bengaluru-based company's financial difficulties, the Bengaluru-based corporation signed a $35 million sponsorship arrangement with the club in 2019.
However, the BCCI acknowledged in a press release that some brand categories that do not fulfil the standards of the Invitation to Tender (ITT) will be unable to participate in the bidding process.
"Any interested party wishing to submit a bid is required to purchase the ITT. However, only those satisfying the eligibility criteria set out in the ITT and subject to the other terms and conditions set out therein, shall be eligible to bid,"
read the press release.
"It is clarified that merely purchasing the ITT does not entitle any person to bid. The attention of the interested parties is brought to Annexure B which details certain brand categories in which the interested party cannot bid,"
the BCCI added.
According to a TOI report, the apex cricket body has highlighted the categories that are not eligible to compete for the national team's primary sponsor rights.
They are as follows: (a) Athleisure and Sportswear Manufacturer; (b) Alcohol Products; (c) Betting; (d) bitcoin; (e) Real Money Gaming (Except Fantasy Sports Gaming); (f) Tobacco; and (g) any other product that is likely to violate public morals, including but not limited to pornography.
Given that the ODI World Cup begins in October, the BCCI will almost certainly finalise a contract with a brand to have their names featured on the front of the national team's jersey. An official announcement regarding the deal's confirmation is expected before to the main event.
