Cricket News: Ahmedabad and Mumbai likely to host World Cup final and semi-final

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is intending to hold the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup final at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium and one of the semi-finals at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, according to the latest sources.

Indian cricket board will host 48 World Cup games, with each location set to stage four matches.

The next ODI World Cup will be held in India in October-November, however the ICC has yet to provide an official schedule.

While the Narendra Modi Stadium has a seating capacity of over 100,000 people and will be an appropriate setting for the showpiece event's final. The same ground will also host the opening match of the next Indian Premier League 2023, as well as the final.

Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai hosted the 2011 ODI World Cup final, and according to a recent source, the venue would likely host one semi-final match in the next World Cup.

The same report, though, predicts that the high-voltage India-Pakistan game will be assigned to either Chennai or Delhi.

Earlier, reports surfaced that Bangladesh would host Pakistan's World Cup games, including the match against India. But, according to recent sources, ICC and BCCI officials have dismissed such rumours.

According to Cricbuzz, an ICC official who was present at the ICC's most recent meeting with the BCCI confirmed that India will host all of the scheduled games.

"Bangladesh was not discussed at all at the Board meeting and full backing for the event in India was given by the Board. We're focused on that,"

an ICC official told Cricbuzz.

Another ICC board member said that the question of hosting Pakistan's matches was never on the table at the last meeting.

"It was not discussed at the board. (It) may have been in one of the committees but never in my presence,"
