In the 2023 season of the competition, the first Indian Premier League game could be played at the Barkatullah Khan Stadium in Jodhpur. The competition will be held on a pan-Indian basis for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) hopes to take advantage of this to promote the game throughout the state.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been verbally informed by the senior RCA officials about their wish to organise a few matches in the city, and a decision would be taken shortly, according to Indian Express.
The Roger Binny-led group will send a team to inspect the site and the building, and if they find it to be worthy, they will give it the green light.
"It's a verbal request. We have been told that RCA has rejuvenated the stadium, and have asked us if we can consider Jodhpur as a new venue for a few IPL games. The board will take a call on it only after the recce team submits its report,"
a source in the BCCI was quoted in the report.
The report indicates that BCCI has serious reservations about the stadium's outer boundaries.
Some others think it doesn't go the necessary mile and could ultimately prevent Jodhpur from obtaining the chance to host.
However, RCA is upbeat about the situation because the stadium has hosted a few First-Class matches. Given the amount of spectators on match days, the Legends League Cricket (LLC) matches that were played at the venue in 2022 were also a huge success. The venue can accommodate 30,000 people, thus there is a very high likelihood that the IPL's governing board will eventually approve Jodhpur.
According to reports, each team in the 2023 tournament would host at least nine home games.
The Rajasthan Royals franchise's current home field is the Sawai Maan Singh Stadium in Jaipur. Notably, it is anticipated that the 16th season of the IPL would start in the final week of March.
