Motor Sport News : Redding wins dramatic Race 1 at Navarra as Rae increases points lead

Britain's Scott Redding won round seven's opening race in the Superbike World Championship at the Circuito de Navarra in Spain on Saturday. The Ducati rider held off reigning champion and current points leader Jonathan Rea to take his second win in a row, following his success in race two in the Czech Republic a fortnight ago. After Redding overtook pole-sitter Rea into the first corner, the pair battled for the lead throughout until Rea's deteriorating tyres allowed his compatriot to pull away late in the race. Turkey's Toprak Razgatlioglu finished third, ahead of Andrea Locatelli of Italy, with two more Britons, Alex Lowes and Tom Sykes, fifth and sixth. The result put Rae on 286 points, increasing his lead to seven points over Locatelli in the standings, with Redding third, 45 points off the pace. Race Two takes place at the same circuit on Sunday.
