Tennis: Brazil v Belgium in Davis Cup qualifiers

Belgium beat Brazil in both Saturday's rubbers to win the tie 3:1 and secure their place in November's inaugural Davis Cup finals. The day began with the match level at 1-1, but Belgium led 2-1 after the doubles rubber, thanks to the unexpected defeat of multiple Grand Slam winners Bruno Soares and Marcelo Melo 6-4 7-6(4). Almost every point the Brazilians won was met with a roaring cheer, but the team of Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen dealt with it magnificently and didn't concede a single break point. That victory was the turning point of the tie. Brazil's Thiago Monteiro had to beat Kimmer Coppejans to force a decisive rubber, but the Belgian looked more composed throughout. 195th-ranked Coppejans, a player who had never previously won a singles rubber, showed no signs of nerves and sealed the tie with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
