Naomi Osaka's winning run came to an end after the eighth seed lost in straight sets to Anastasija Sevastova in the China Open in Beijing. Osaka was bidding to become the first player in 2018 to reach three consecutive finals, but Sevastova's second win over the Japanese player this year ended that run. The first set was evenly matched and was ultimately decided by just one break when Osaka lost her serve in the seventh game to lose the first 6-4. Osaka required a medical break in the second set for what appeared to be a lower back pain. As the match progressed the 20-year-old produced a number of errors, and lost her serve twice in the second set to lose the match 6-4, 6-4 after one hour and 33 minutes on court.
