Football: United's late winner is just what Ole ordered

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United's controversial match-winning penalty is just the boost they needed. Solskjaer: "I don’t think we’ve ever scored after the final whistle, but of course, the handball was before full-time so it’s probably the right thing [awarding a penalty] to do. For us it’s a big thing. We’ve discussed it this season – we need more late goals. We were the team that lost the fewest games, apart from Liverpool last season, but we drew too many. To get the two extra points after conceding the equaliser so late on is a great boost for us. The spirit and character of the boys, I don’t question at all because we see them everyday. The spirit is there. The sharpness and the fitness might not be there and the form, but it’s going to come. We’ve got three or four weeks’ catch-up to do to a few teams and the more games we play, the more 90 minutes the lads get, we’ll be better and better and sharper and sharper."
