A new corruption scandal has taken the Uttar Pradesh Cricket association by storm. According to recent reports, Mohammed AkramSaifi, Indian Premier League chairman Rajeev Shukla's close aide has been accused of demanding bribes and favours for including a player in the Uttar Pradesh junior cricket team. According to reports, cricketer Rahul Sharmawas asked to pay in “cash and kind” for selection by Saifi. Saifi has been accused by the budding cricketer of asking for favours in return for selection in the state team. Sharma also alleged that Saifi provides fake age certificates to players to help them participate in BCCI’s age-group tournaments. Saifi was suspended by the BCCI, following the sting operation. He also handed his resignation from his post as Rajeev Shukla’s executive assistant and claimed the allegations were baseless and a ploy to defame him. The BCCI has said that acting president CK Khanna will constitute a committee within 48 hours, to investigate the matter. The committee will be led by a commissioner, who will investigate the corruption issue and submit reports in 15 days.
