Football: Record crowd for women's club football match set in Spain

Atletico Madrid and Barcelona set a new world record for the highest attendance at a women's club football match. A total of 60,739 people turned out at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in the Spanish capital as Barcelona's 2-0 win cut Atletico's lead at the top of the standings to three points with six matches remaining. In January, Athletic Bilbao claimed a European record when 48,121 spectators attended a Spanish Cup match against Atletico Madrid at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao. The record for any women's match was the 90,185 people who watched the 1999 World Cup final as the United States beat China on penalties in Pasadena. At the 2012 Olympic final in London a crowd of 80,203 saw USA take the gold medal following a 2-1 win over Japan.
