Ajax, Liverpool, and Napoli will be the opponents that Scottish powerhouse Rangers will face in the 2022-23 Champions League group stage.After defeating PSV Eindhoven 3-2 on the road in the playoff round, the Gers are back in the top division for the first time in 12 years.
The team of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who was seeded in Pot 4, will prepare for a hard slate of games in Group A,including two meetings with four-time European Cup champions Ajax.
Defender Calvin Bassey will also play his former team after being sold for a club-record price earlier this summer.The Champions League champions from last season's Europa League will also square off against Premier League powerhouse Liverpool,who have never seen the Gers in a competitive matchup but have won the Champions League six times in their history.
The Italian team Napoli, who were third in Serie A last year and are making their UCL comeback after a two-year hiatus, will also face off against Rangers.
Other groups include the holders of the Champions League, Real Madrid, RB Leipzig, and Shakhtar Donetsk in Group F,while the Premier League champions Manchester City are placed in Group G with Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund, and Copenhagen.
Tottenham Hotspur has been placed in Group D with Europa League champions Eintracht Frankfurt,Sporting Lisbon, and Marseille, while Chelsea will face AC Milan, Red Bull Salzburg, and Dinamo Zagreb in Group E.
Rangers escaped being placed in Group C, which also includes Viktoria Plzen and the underdogs Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Inter Milan.
On September 6 and 7, the competition's opening group-stage matches are scheduled to take place.
