Football News: Thiago Silva reacts to Chelsea's spending in transfer market

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has acknowledged that the team's recent transfer activity is unlike anything he has ever seen. Chelsea has spent more than £600 million in the last two transfer windows.

The spending have increased since a group led by Todd Boehly acquired the club last summer. Eight new players were added by the Blues in January, including Enzo Fernandez

Enzo left Benifca for a fee of €121 million (£106 million) on the final day of the transfer window. Moreover, last month, permanent contracts were signed by 5 more players.

The names include Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Mykhaylo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, and Andrey Santos. Meanwhile, the Portuguese forward Joao Felix joined on loan from Atletico Madrid.

Malo Gusto also reached an agreement for a loan deal with Lyon after a permanent transfer to Chelsea and thus, returning immediately to the French team on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

The seasoned centre back Silva has acknowledged that Chelsea's involvement in the transfer market is unique, but it does highlight the team's "ambition" to succeed.

"It is the first time I have seen something like this in my whole career,"

Silva told Chelsea's official website.

"This shows about the ambition of the club, how much the club wants to win. We had a lot of injury problems this year."

"A lot of new players arrived and that takes time to prepare and get used to. We know we're not having the best season, but I really believe that the positive thing is if we do not start well, we can finish well."

While next up for the Blues will be a Premier League clash against West Ham United following which Champions League awaits.

The first leg of Chelsea's last-16 match against Borussia Dortmund will take place at Signal Iduna Park the following week.

In light of Chelsea's next crucial games, Silva says that the newcomers must get started right away.

The Brazilian further added saying

"So, that is what we need to learn as a lesson, try to get settled in as soon as possible, because there's no time left, because the Champions League will start again soon."

"We need everyone to be ready, at the same page, we won't be at 100 per cent, but the knowledge of each other has to be important at this moment to build chemistry."

Silva's current deal expires at the end of the current campaign, but he recently stated that he is close to agreeing to a new one with the Blues.

In the Saturday lunchtime kickoff, Silva and his teammates will play West Ham United before focusing on their away match with Dortmund.
