Football News: Mauricio Pochettino eyeing Chelsea job if Graham Potter leaves?

The former Spurs and PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino is eyeing for the Chelsea job if Graham Potter is fired. In September, Potter took Thomas Tuchel's place as Chelsea's head coach, and he had a successful debut season in West London.

A nine-game unbeaten streak in all competitions, which included six victories, was the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager's career-opening feat. The Blues, though, have subsequently gone on a losing streak, winning just two of their prior nine competitive games.

Potter's status as Chelsea's manager has been under fire following back-to-back losses to Manchester City. This included a discouraging 4-0 loss in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

Pochettino would be happy to take Potter's place if Chelsea decided it was time for a managerial change, according to The Sun. Despite leaving Tottenham more than three years ago, the Argentine is said to still have a residence there and to have visited frequently.

He is ready to take over at Stamford Bridge, but his connections to Chelsea's London rivals Tottenham could be a problem. Pochettino led Tottenham for more than five years.

During his tenure, the team reached the 2018-19 Champions League final, where they fell to Liverpool, and finished second in the 2014-15 EFL Cup.

Before being fired last summer, he most recently spent a year and a half as the head coach of PSG, when he won the French Super Cup, the Coupe de France, and a league title.

The 50-year-old was recently mentioned as a candidate for the manager's position of the England national team, but Gareth Southgate finally chose to remain in that position following their World Cup quarterfinal loss to France.

The Chelsea board is anticipated to give Potter till the end of January, despite rumours that Pochettino may be on standby, but it is thought that his future is being taken into consideration.

Following rumours that Joao Felix has flown to London for a physical ahead of a loan deal from Atletico Madrid, the Chelsea manager is expected to receive reinforcements in the final third.

The Blues allegedly reached a verbal agreement with Atletico and will pay a €11 million (£9.7 million) loan fee in addition to his £250,000 weekly salary.

Potter will be hoping that his team can go back to winning ways against West London rivals Fulham on Thursday with Chelsea currently sitting in 10th place in the Premier League rankings.
