Football News : Indian football team lands in Maldives for SAFF Championship

The Indian men’s football senior National team lands safely in Maldives for the forthcoming SAFF Championship which kicks-off from October 1 onwards. The 23-member squad along with the support staff travelled from Bengaluru where all had assembled the previous day. Head Coach Igor Stimac has joined the squad directly in Maldives. India began their campaign against Bangladesh on October 4. Talismanic captain Sunil Chhetri lauded the organising committee for putting in an “extraordinary effort”. The Blue Tigers will be inside a secured bio bubble all throughout the tournament. The Blue Tigers have won the SAFF Championship formerly known as SAARC Cup seven times in 1993 in Lahore, 1997 in Kathmandu, 1999 in Margao, 2005 in Karachi, 2009 (U23 squad) in Dhaka, 2011 in New Delhi and in 2015-16 in Thiruvananthapuram.
