Football: Guardiola says Man City could spend £100m on one player amid Haaland links

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said spending big on one player does not guarantee success, ahead of the club's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Dortmund. His comments come with City looking to replace outgoing striker Sergio Aguero this summer and Erling Haaland seemingly set to depart Dortmund at the end of the current season. Manchester is a possible destination for the 20 year old prodigy but City's recent approach in the transfer market has not been to sign superstar players. Guardiola conceded on Monday those tactics may change in the future but that spending big on individuals is also not a failsafe route to winning trophies. "It's not that spending on one player a lot of money gives you an advantage to win. Football is a team game. Everyone makes his contribution - the guys who don't play, the backroom staff, everyone. This competition will not be won by one player, it is for absolutely everyone," he said.
