Football: Celtic edge closer to 8th straight title with 2-0 win at St. Mirren

Celtic took another step towards an eighth consecutive Scottish Premiership crown on Wednesday, following a 2-0 win at relegation-threatened St. Mirren. Paris St. Germain loanee Timothy Weah got Celtic on their way after 14 minutes - his header following a goalmouth scramble hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced over the line before home 'keeper Vaclav Hladky could clear. Celtic ought to have made the game safe from the penalty spot on the half hour, but Olivier Ntcham saw his effort saved by Hladky and his follow-up graze the bar. The home side improved after the break, but could not find a way back and Ryan Christie put the result beyond doubt with a deflected strike five minutes from time. Celtic maintained their 14-point lead at the top of the standings and could wrap up the title at the weekend if they win and arch-rivals Rangers don't.
