Cricket News: The only U19 World Cup winning captain Delhi Capitals didn’t go for

The Delhi Capitals, an Indian Premier League Franchise, have had a tonne of quality players throughout the years. However, they are yet to take home a championship even after 15 seasons of the tournament.

While they would be hoping that the Women's Premier League's inaugural season would be their big break. Rising stars in Indian cricket are known to receive opportunities from DC.

Up until this point, they have chosen all but one of the Indian U19 World Cup champion captains. Except for Virat Kohli, the Delhi Capitals opted for every other captain of the Indian U-19 World Cup-winning side.

If Kohli had been chosen for their 2008 squad, things for DC would have been quite different now. DC has so far signed Unmukt Chand back in 2012, Prithvi Shaw in 2018, and the most recent Yaah Dhull in 2022.While talking about the first season of the WPL the Capitals have roped in Shafali Verma for the inaugural season.

Meanwhile, IPL 2023 is scheduled to take place between 1st April & 28th May. And WPL's 1st season is planned to kick off from 3rd March while the final will be held on 26th March.

The Delhi Capitals were one of the teams that played their cards quite strategically once the WPL Auction got going. DC did not put in any players from the first set, but they immediately made up for their sluggish start by bringing in Jemimah Rodrigues, 22, Shafali Verma, and Meg Lanning, a four-time T20 World Cup champion and team captain.

In the inaugural season of the WPL, Rodrigues will be one of the most crucial players for DC. The 22-year-old has been playing well lately, and the team is hoping that she will continue playing well at the competition.

Shafali Verma, the captain of the U19 Indian team that won the World Cup in spectacular style, could be crucial for the Delhi Capitals. Unfortunately, DC was unable to convince a lot of important players to join their team. Among the players that DC lost out on due to being outbid were Harmanpreet Kaur, Ellyse Perry, and Deepti Sharma.
