On Blockbuster Monday, IPL 2023 will feature a highly anticipated Southern Derby between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Two of the IPL's biggest names, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, will face off in one of the tournament's most anticipated matches each season. Apart from the battle for domination between the two teams, the presence of batting mainstays Kohli and Dhoni at this stadium adds a new depth to this IPL rivalry.
Kohli was named RCB's player of the match in the previous IPL match against Delhi Capitals, and the talismanic batter will be eager to put his best foot forward against CSK. Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar praised Kohli for providing electric starts in the IPL 2023, calling it a good indicator for RCB.
Speaking on Star Sports Cricket Live Show, Gavaskar said,
"Virat Kohli is giving RCB flying starts at the start of the innings. He deserves a lot of credit for the starts RCB is getting and the runs the team is managing to post on the board because of his starts. These are good signs for RCB."
Kohli has scored 214 runs so far in his 4 appearances for RCB this season. The former Indian skipper sits 5th in most runs scored in IPL 2023 table. If the former RCB captain scores 20+ runs against CSK he will top the most runs scored charts.
Gavaskar also lauded Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni for the manner he leads the team and how his proclivity for pulling the team out of difficult situations makes him the best captain of all time.
"Chennai Super Kings know how to get out of tough situations. This has been possible only under MS Dhoni's captaincy. Captaining 200 matches is very difficult. Captaining so many matches is a burden and it could have affected his performance as well. But Mahi is different. He is a different captain. There hasn't been a captain like him and there will never be one like him in the future,"
Gavaskar added.
Meanwhile, the games on Super Sunday featured some exciting contests and spectacular victories by the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals, respectively.
Mumbai Indians defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in a clinical display to earn their second win of the season. Former Mumbai Indians cricketer Aditya Tare praised the Mumbai Indians for their back-to-back victories, claiming the five-time IPL champions have finally discovered a winning combination this season.
Rajasthan Royals pulled off a remarkable run chase to hand the Gujarat Titans their second home loss in a row. After his team was pushed against the wall early on, it was skipper Sanju Samson who led the charge for Rajasthan.
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh praised Sanju Samson, saying the wicketkeeper-batter shown a lot of maturity in his game. With each passing day, he continues to amaze, and as a result, Samson deserves to be a permanent member of India's white-ball squad.
