The Massachusetts-born businessman bought the Patriots in 1994 for a record price of $172 million. That year the Pats made the playoffs for the first time since 1986, losing to the Browns in the wild-card game. New England reached the Super Bowl two years later, the first of three straight playoff appearances. it was the start of a dynasty - Bill Belichick taking over in 2000, before Tom Brady was drafted in 2002. Kraft was considered an ally to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, but the pair's relationship became strained over the "deflategate" investigation. The 77-year-old said he was "wrong to put my faith in the league" after Brady was suspended. After missing four games Brady returned to lead the Patriots to the Super Bowl Li title. They sealed a record-equalling sixth title in February 2019.
