Tennis: Ferrer ends his career with a defeat to Zverev in Madrid Open second round

After almost twenty years in professional tennis, David Ferrer ended his career on Wednesday with a defeat to Alexander Zverev in the second round of the Madrid Open. The Spaniard went 4-1 up in the first set, but then lost 11 of the following 12 games, ending up with a 6-4, 6-1 loss to the number three seed. Ferrer turned pro in 2000 and in his career has claimed 27 titles out of 52 finals, including a defeat to Rafa Nadal at Roland Garros in 2013.
