Football : VVV Venlo beat 10-man PEC Zwolle 2-0 in the Dutch Eredivisie

VVV Venlo beat 10-man PEC Zwolle 2-0 at the Seacon Stadion to move closer to the Dutch Eredivisie play-offs. The home side thought they'd won a penalty in the ninth minute when Patrick Joosten was fouled in the box by Bram Van Polen. But after consulting the VAR (video assistant referee), match official Joey Kooij overturned his decision. Zwolle were reduced to ten men and conceded a penalty in the process when veteran goalkeeper Diederik Boer was shown a straight red card in the 25th minute for bringing down Joosten. Tino-Sven Susic duly converted from the spot against substitute goalkeeper Mickey Van der Hart. The only notable action in the second half was a stunning free kick by Joosten in the 66th minute and Venlo's 2-0 win kept them in touch with their play-off rivals.
