Cricket News: Ali scores gritty ton but Anderson's five-for keeps Eng ahead

Azhar Ali's unbeaten century helped Pakistan make a slight recovery as they were bowled out for 273 in their first innings at close of play on day three of the third Test against England at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Sunday. Pakistan conceded a 310-run lead and were asked to follow-on by England captain Joe Root. On Sunday, resuming at the overnight score of 24 for three in reply to England's first innings score of 583 for eight declared, Pakistan owed their defiance to captain Azhar who remained unbeaten on 141. He faced 272 balls and hit 21 fours in his innings. Azhar added 138 runs for the sixth wicket with wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan who scored 53 off 113 balls.
