Basketball: Olympiacos beat Gran Canaria 98-77 in the Euroleague

Olympiacos Piraeus notched their sixth win in their last seven games, easing past Herbalife Gran Canaria 98-77. The hosts opened the scoring and were rarely under any pressure, and led 52-33 at the halfway stage of the game after scoring an impressive 32 points in the second quarter. Vassilis Spanoulis and Georgios Printezis spearheaded their attack - the former contributing a total of 21 points, while new signing Siim-Sander Vene and Zach LeDay were among those who attempted to keep Gran Canaria in touch. A strong showing in the third quarter saw the Spanish side enjoy a rare 0-8 run and close to within 13 points, but a genuine comeback never seemed light, and two quick-fire three-pointers from Spanoulis at the end of the fourth quarter saw the hosts run out emphatic winners.
