In the match of the EuroLeague season so far, the battle of the leaders went the way of CSKA Moscow who came away from Madrid with a 93-88 win over defending champions Real on Thursday. With each side having lost for the first time last week, the winner in the Spanish capital would take over as the outright leaders of the standings. And CSKA led early on, despite a monster, buzzer-beating three-point play from Real's Facundo Campazzo. The second quarter was much more to the satisfaction of the home fans though as their side went into the break 41-38 up. But everything changed in the third quarter as Cory Higgins hauled CSKA into the lead again - and they opened up a six-point advantage going into the final ten minutes. Higgins was in brilliant form again towards the close as Real tried - and failed - to overhaul the Russians. Higgins finished with 24 points and Will Clyburn with 18 for CSKA - Campazzo's 23-point haul was in vain for Real.
