The Tokyo 2020 Olympics begins 6 months from now. This will be the 25th edition of the Olympics for India. After 100 years of participation at the Olympics, we are still talking about grass root development with a 'if' and a 'but'. At the moment we are more focused on rescue operations and damage control where our athletes fighting for their Olympic qualification trial events have to parallelly fight for trivial issues like their boarding & lodging. Athlete perceptions towards sports bodies in India is not very favorable. Federations such as Archery, Taekwondo, Karate, Golf, continue to be derecognized. The Archery elections which are supposed to be held this month, seems to be in jeopardy, once again. Vote bank politics continues to take precedence over medals at the Olympics. Amidst all this , the Indian Olympic Association has adopted a 'Safe Sport' policy, apparently not having clarity about what the policy entails and how it would be implemented.
